There are five categories of job boards listed below. These include Professional Associations and Organizations that Provide Certifications, Employment or Staffing Agencies, Government Organizations, News Organizations, and Other Organizations. Although their are five categories, there are two main types of job boards on the web. Those that charge for their job search services and those that don't. Professional associations and organizations that provide certifications usually don't charge since members have already paid for membership and their certifications (e.g., AICPA and IMA). Government job boards and news organizations don't usually charge. Employment agencies like Robert Half do charge, but are likely to provide more personal attention to a job seeker's specific needs. If you use an employment agency (staffing service, etc.) make sure you know what you are signing. They may take a percentage of your first year salary for their services. Newspaper job boards can be a good source of free information. Do a Google search to find the newspaper job board in your city. An alternative is to go to the Monster site and type in a job title, keywords, city, state or zip code. The government job boards are worth a look and you might also want to join one or more accounting groups on LinkedIn since they frequently post lots of jobs. Of course college students should use their college placement office. Also note that many companies provide training programs for accounting graduates and you can apply to those companies whether they recruit on your campus or not.
